Excel is one of the most used file format. System i applications have to export their data to Excel.
With LAUNCHER/400 Office, you automate the process.
Template are created and maintained by the users.
Native applications populate templates to generate the final workbook saved or sent to final user.
How does it work?
What is called here a template, or model, is just a regular Workbook, with formulas, images, formats, named ranges of cells, ...
AS/400 developers gets an API to load an Excel document, and populate it with AS/400 data resulting from database files, SQL Queries, Query files, or program variables.
Excel Named ranges are resized automatically by Launcher/400, according to the number of records pushed by the native program.
The AS/400 application can push multiple sets of data to multiple locations in a Workbook (Named ranges, Sheets, ...).
Before to save or send the final Workbook, the native program can use various methods to finalyse it : Change formats, insert images or graphs, freeze values by removing formulas, convert to PDF or CSV format, ...
With Launcher/400 Office, your AS/400 native program will automatically do what your users are manually doing, using data transfer utilities, Copy and Paste, and keyboard inputs.
Security and Confidentiality
The System sends the data to the users. So, users don't need any access right to database files. They don't have queries to run to extract data.
Because the system updates the workbook and adjusts formulas to the new data, no additional action is needed, avoiding potential human errors.
The system exports the data at the right time. Users don't get data that is not up to date.
Import Data fron Excel Workbook
Excel is often used to input data, exchange data between applications and people, or for complex calculations.
With LAUNCHER/400 Office, System i native applications import the contain of workbooks, or read the value of individual cells.
